Re: Pig Bio-pic |
If they fuck this up I will be irritated as hell. I always thought his story was as compelling as Jerry's. He brought it - just by being himself. Fucking love that man.
Could be great if done right. Even if its close that will be pretty cool. The title already worries me though.

Re: Pig Bio-pic |
I think they're going for an understated thing. Certainly better than "Pig: A Man" or "Grateful Pig" or any number of cheesy titles they could come up with. And I guess it's just a working title anyway. I'd love to see a good biopic of him; I hope they can pull it off.

Re: Pig Bio-pic |
Yeah, the title is a little scary, and their other production doesn't exactly inspire confidence:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1639086/Interesting, though, that both this and the Garcia bio-pic chose to focus on their pre-Dead lives.
Speaking of which, anyone know if the Garcia crew finally got at least legal blessing from the band?:
http://www.spinner.ca/2010/08/04/jerry-garcia-biopic-denied/Seems impossible to proceed without it, and I can't imagine the Pig one will get the go-ahead, either, if the first case hasn't been sorted.

Re: Pig Bio-pic |
What I 've heard is that the GD organization is working really hard behind the scenes to get a big-budget, major studio "Grateful Dead" movie made, and they are notoriously picky with their music rights, so it seems unlikely that they'll be giving any away to these no-budget projects.
The people who announced the Garcia movie, in particular, seemed to have no clue who they were dealing with. "Well, we bought the rights to this book about Jerry, so now let's see about getting some music rights ... " is absolutely NOT the way to approach the Dead.
But that could be much less of a problem with Pigpen, right? They could just fill a soundtrack with blues & R&B covers, and don't necessarily need any original GD material.

Re: Pig Bio-pic |
If they don't have a scene with Pig doing his thing during Lovelight -- or, more likely, an actor doing that scene like Joaquin Phoenix in Walk the Line -- then they really haven't done the man justice. There's precious little actual footage of him out there, I'm afraid.
